Costa Rican campesinos (farmers) stand at the core of Costa Rican national identity; yet in many ways they are fading from view as more and more young people move to urban centers. In just a short 50 years Costa Rica’s urban population has more than doubled as jobs in agriculture have shrunk to less than half in that same amount of time. Through this series I attempt to document these rural livelihoods before they vanish. There is a kind of ease and patience in this way of life; an attitude that has over the generations coined a common Costa Rican greeting, "Pura vida." This project is ongoing and I hope to eventually complete it as a book.
